About
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is David Abreu and I am from San Pedro deMacoris, Dominican Republic born in 1979 where I grew up with my parents, older brother, grandparents and many other family members.

My first true passion was basketball. You could find me most days as a child bouncing off walls with my bare feet to make a slam dunk. As I grew older I became the champ of my town. When I wasn’t playing basketball you could find me in a field with my friends playing baseball. Although, we didn’t have the money to buy bats, gloves or a ball we made them instead. Our bat of course was a stick, our gloves were usually made from an empty milk carton that we flatten out and put on our hands. Not much of a glove but we made it work. Then our balls were made out of mosquito netting and black electrical tape. No matter what, we were all smiling and having fun!

At the age of 10 I really became interested in baseball, spending most of my time learning the game and how to better myself as a player. When I turned 16, I signed with the New York Mets and this is where my life truly begins as a professional baseball player. My Facebook page shows some highlights of my career.
In May of 2000, the first day that I played for the Capital City Bombers in Columbia, South Carolina some crazy girl jumped out of the stands during practice and chased me all over the field. Well, that crazy girl and I got married in September of 2001. Not long after I was released from baseball as a 7 year free-agent, I decided it was time for me to plant my roots and build my family. Leaving my family in Dominican was a hard and difficult decision, but the right one. Melissa and I have been married now for almost 17 years and now have 3 beautiful children. Kyra is 15 and absolutely loves playing volleyball and softball. Alex is 13, who is the complete athlete and enjoys every sport, but seems to be following in my footsteps for the love of baseball. Last is Korie, she is 7 and already commands all the attention with the cutest little smile. My mom (Margarita Delacruz) and my Dad (Ramon Abreu) still live in the Dominican Republic with my niece (Dalexis Abreu). My brother (Alexis Abreu) is a General Manager for a major Hotel Resort chain in Cancun Mexico. Even though we are all miles apart my family is very important to me and my hope is that one day we will all be back together again.

My program is based on learning the correct information that was taught to me during my 7 years playing with the New York Mets.
My program is designed to teach you the proper mechanics and muscle memory.
We will begin with the very basics of throwing and catching the ball.
Please keep in mind that my program is a process and it takes time and practice.
I ask that you come prepared and ready to work as well as have fun too.
To the parents of my students I ask that you help during the session to better understand what information I am teaching your child/children and be able to go home and work on homework. This will help give us more time during the session and be able to move onto the next step.
Services
My objective as “The Baseball Mechanic” is to teach my knowledge of baseball to those who are willing and want to learn the ...fundamentals of the sport. It is my goal to help guide them and educate them not only as an instructor but as a mentor. Someone who they can look up to and guide them in the right direction in baseball and everyday life. My expectations are for the kids/teens/adults to come prepared to learn and be open and willing to try something new.
